On June 11th, 2012 we marked the beginning of an annual tradition. The summer of 2012 will go down in history as the first Summer of Red Roses event to help raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis by playing lawn bowling. The gathering of lawn bowlers is an opportunity for friends, family and CF supporters to come together, have some fun and most importantly put an end to Cystic Fibrosis!

About Cystic Fibrosis

Imagine living through life not being able to breath, little ability to exercise, constantly fighting for air as your respiratory tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs get clogged. This is a life where you find yourself wheezing, coughing, acquiring repeated lung infections and having an average life expectancy of only 37 years old. This is the life of someone with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). With one in 25 Canadians who carry a defective version of the gene responsible for CF, it is vital that we find a cure and eradicate this disease that impacts the quality of life of many children and adults here in Canada. Although it is now possible to live with CF well into your thirties, in the 1960s, most children with CF did not live long enough to attend kindergarten. It is necessary that we continue to move forward, and not just raise the life expectancy of someone with CF but finally put a stop to it.

About the Event

The summer of 2012 will be the first of many summers to come, marking the beginning of an annual tradition. The gathering of lawn bowlers is an opportunity for friends, family and CF supporters to come together, have some fun and most importantly raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis Canada! If your curious as to our organization’s name “Summer of Red Roses” it was inspired by a Cystic Fibrosis documentary featuring Eva Markvoort titled “65 Red Roses”.

This year the Burlington Lawn Bowling Club has donated their facility to help make this possible. We are currently looking for other potential sponsors for other important event requirements.

Are you a dedicated, enthusiastic & committed individual who is looking to make an impact on someone’s life? Summer of Red Roses is looking for volunteers who poses these qualities across the United States and Canada to start CF fundraisers in their city. The more lawn bowlers we have, the closer we are to raising more money to find a cure for Cistic Fibrosis. Plus, you’ll be raising money for a great cause, while putting smiles on all the faces who register!
